Most “best Shopify agencies” lists are padded with enterprise shops that won’t return your call, or generalist firms that treat Shopify as one of ten platforms they half-know. For years I’ve watched a lot of clients pick agencies, some well, some badly. This list is my attempt to make that decision easier.

Every agency here is a boutique design and development shop focused specifically on building and improving Shopify and Shopify Plus storefronts. I’ve evaluated each one based on portfolio, client results, and the types of merchants they actually serve well.

The goal is simple: give you an honest picture of what each shop is genuinely great at, so you can match yourself to the right partner instead of spending three months figuring out it’s the wrong fit.

How I chose these agencies

There are hundreds of Shopify agencies in the US. Most of them will tell you they do everything. Here’s the thing: very few are actually great at the specific thing you need. And the ones worth hiring usually have a very short, confident answer to “what are you best at?”

To make this list, every agency had to meet four criteria:

CriteriaWhat I looked for
Shopify-firstShopify / Shopify Plus is their primary platform
Design & development focusCore services are UX, design, theme development, custom builds, migrations, and CRO
Boutique sizeRoughly 5–50 employees, small enough that senior people are actually on your account
Verifiable track recordReal client names, real results, and a portfolio you can actually browse

Fuel Made

Location: Washington State

Website: fuelmade.com

Services: Shopify Plus, CRO, UX Design, Klaviyo Elite Partner, A/B Testing

Fuel Made is one of the few shops that takes conversion rate optimization seriously at the design level. Not as a bolt-on service, but as the lens through which every decision gets made. Their process starts with understanding why visitors aren’t buying, then builds the store experience backward from there.

They were among the original 12 Shopify Plus Designated Partners in 2016 and hold Klaviyo Master Elite Partner status. That dual credentialing signals genuine platform depth, not marketing badge collection.

Their documented results: a 50% conversion rate increase for Supply, a 72% CVR improvement for cocokind, and a 964% email ROI for Beardbrand. Those aren’t typical numbers, and they don’t come from typical thinking. What I’ve seen consistently with CRO-focused shops is that the ones who start with design, not scripts and A/B tests, tend to get results that actually hold.

Best For

DTC brands on Shopify Plus with existing traffic that need to meaningfully improve conversion rates through better UX, design, and email strategy. Not more ad spend.

Exhibea

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Website: exhibea.com

Services: Shopify Plus Partner, Luxury & Premium, Fashion & Beauty, Replatforming, UX Design

Exhibea works in a space where very few agencies operate competently: premium and luxury DTC brands that need Shopify to feel like it was built for them, not like a template dressed up with a premium color palette.

Founded by Bita Shahian, their portfolio includes Sporty & Rich, Sunday Riley, Roller Rabbit, and Holderness & Bourne. Each of those clients demands design sophistication that mass-market agencies simply don’t have the sensibility to deliver.

Aureum Collective documented a 75% conversion rate improvement after their Exhibea engagement. Exhibea keeps their scope tight: Shopify Plus design and build, replatforming, UX, and branding. Just the store, done right.

Best For

Luxury, premium, fashion, and beauty brands that need a Shopify Plus storefront that matches the quality of their product, with an agency that understands how high-end consumers actually shop online.

Verbal+Visual

Location: Brooklyn, NY

Website: vpv.co

Services: Shopify Plus Partner, Heritage Brands

Verbal+Visual has been a Shopify Plus Partner since 2009. They built one of the first ten Shopify Plus sites in 2014, which gives them a depth of platform knowledge that newer agencies can’t manufacture.

Their client roster reads like a lesson in how heritage and workwear brands go DTC: Carhartt WIP, Faherty, Andie Swim, Jonathan Adler, Patrick Ta Beauty. These are brands with a clear identity and a customer base with high expectations, not easy clients to serve.

Documented results: a 25% conversion rate increase, 7% AOV lift, and 100%+ ROI within two months for Carhartt WIP. And 163% revenue growth with a 65% CVR increase for Jonathan Adler. Their POS capability is also worth noting for brands running both retail and online channels.

Best For

Heritage, lifestyle, and workwear brands launching or relaunching DTC on Shopify Plus who need both the design sensibility and technical depth to do it right the first time.

eHouse Studio

Location: Charleston, SC

Website: ehousestudio.com

Services: Shopify Platinum Partner, Enterprise & Omnichannel, Headless Commerce, ERP Integrations, Migrations

eHouse Studio is one of the longest-tenured Shopify agencies in the US, founded in 2002 and holding Shopify Platinum Service Partner status, the highest tier available. Their two decades of eCommerce experience show in the complexity of projects they take on.

Clients include Dr. Axe, Ancient Nutrition, Kay Jewelers, and Jared The Galleria of Jewelry. These are enterprise accounts where technical depth and project management rigor both matter. Their 2024 acquisitions of Commerce12 and VL OMNI expanded their integration and data capabilities significantly.

If you’re running a complex Shopify Plus build with ERP connections, headless architecture, or multi-channel data flows, eHouse brings more institutional experience to those problems than most shops their size.

Best For

Enterprise and scaling Shopify Plus brands with complex technical requirements: ERP integrations, headless builds, omnichannel unification. Brands that need a long-tenured agency with the platform credentials to match.

Uncap

Location: Chicago, IL

Website: uncap.com

Services: Shopify Premier Partner, B2B & Wholesale, Manufacturers & Distributors, ERP/PIM Integrations, Complex Migrations

Uncap is the rare Shopify agency built specifically for B2B eCommerce. Manufacturers, distributors, and wholesale operators who need their Shopify Plus store to handle tiered pricing, dealer logins, custom checkout flows, complex product catalogs, and ERP or PIM integrations. Here’s the thing: that’s a completely different discipline from DTC, and most DTC-focused agencies will underestimate how hard it is until they’re already mid-project.

They hold Shopify Premier Partner status, the top tier in the partner ecosystem, with 300+ eCommerce projects and 200+ migrations completed. Their Clutch profile has earned them a #1 Shopify Agency ranking for multiple consecutive years.

Clients include WeldingStore (WISCO), Vermont Wood Studios, and TotalBoat. B2B and specialty merchants where the commerce complexity is real, not theoretical.

Best For

B2B manufacturers, distributors, and wholesale operators migrating to Shopify Plus who need proven expertise in complex B2B commerce configurations and backend integrations.

Sweden Unlimited

Location: New York, NY

Website: swedenunlimited.com

Services: Shopify Plus Partner, Brand Strategy, UX/UI Design, Luxury & Premium, Photography & Video

Sweden Unlimited has been around since 2000, co-led by Alex and Leja Kress and Richard Agerbeek. That tenure shows in a client roster that few boutique shops can match: Chanel, Pandora, Lenox, Akris, Lunya, Mansur Gavriel, Michael Kors, and Cara Cara.

They operate at a level where brand strategy and digital experience are treated as the same conversation, not sequential phases. Their full-service offering spans eCommerce strategy, UX and UI design, platform development, photography, video, campaign creation, and branding.

This is not the agency for move-fast projects. It’s the agency for brands where getting it right matters more than getting it fast.

Best For

Premium and luxury brands that need brand strategy, UX/UI design, and Shopify Plus development are treated as a single integrated engagement, not three separate workstreams.

Chicago Web Co

Location: Chicago, IL

Website: chicagoweb.co

Services: Shopify Expert, DTC Launches, Mobile-First Design, CRO, Women-Oriented

Founded by Maya Page in 2013, Chicago Web Co has built its reputation through 1,200+ store launches and over a decade of platform focus. Proudly 100% woman-owned and operated, they bring a design-led approach to every project: pixel-perfect, mobile-first builds that combine brand-authentic aesthetics with performance-focused UX.

Their work spans full store builds, redesigns, platform migrations, CRO audits, Klaviyo email strategy, and post-launch support. Their agency partnership on a Calvin Klein points and rewards UX redesign contributed to a 20% lift in email sales and a 900%+ 12-month ROI.

Their model is deliberately direct-access: clients work with Maya herself, not an account manager. That matters when brand nuance and fast iteration are both required.

Best For

DTC brands in fashion, health and beauty, and food and drink that want a proven, design-focused Shopify partner with direct senior involvement and a track record of clean, high-converting launches.

PIVOT

Location: Mission Viejo, California

Website: pivotmade.com

Services: Shopify Plus Partner, DTC & B2B, Custom Theme Development, Migrations

Established in 2017, PIVOT has spent eight years building a specialty in Shopify Plus design and development for both DTC and B2B brands. They operate as an extension of their clients’ internal teams, not a one-and-done build shop. That’s reflected in a 95%+ client and employee retention rate, which is unusual in this industry.

Their team is 100% US-based, deeply fluent in Shopify’s Liquid code and Polaris framework, and structured around retained, ongoing optimization relationships as much as new builds. In 2023 alone, their clients generated $1.14 billion in online revenue on Shopify Plus.

Notable clients include KUIU, with documented improvements in mobile and desktop UI/UX following their engagement. For brands that want a committed long-term partner, PIVOT’s model is built for exactly that.

Best For

High-growth DTC and B2B brands on Shopify Plus that want a long-term development partner with ongoing optimization. And who value direct, consistent team relationships over rotating contractors.

Fyresite

Location: Tempe, AZ (Phoenix Area)

Website: fyresite.com

Services: Shopify Plus Partner, Complex Migrations, B2B eCommerce, Custom App Development, Automotive & Industrial

Fyresite holds the distinction of being Arizona’s first and only Shopify Plus Partner, backed up with 16+ years of eCommerce work and a portfolio heavy in technically demanding migrations and B2B configurations. Their roots in automotive and industrial sales give them a real advantage with merchants who have unusually complex product catalogs, variant constraints, and backend integration requirements.

Their case studies illustrate the depth: Cle Tile’s Magento migration to Shopify Plus with a custom calculator and custom checkout modifications. Pooltables.com’s complete redesign with a custom ERP connector. NIS America’s Shopify Plus build with complex NetSuite integrations. All in-house, no contractors.

They hold a BBB A+ rating, a UpCity National Excellence Award, and Clutch Top Firms in Arizona recognition.

Best For

Merchants with technically complex Shopify Plus needs: Magento migrations, B2B configurations, custom ERP integrations, multi-variant catalog challenges. Brands that need in-house engineering depth, not contractors.

Gamma Waves

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Website: gammawaves.io

Services: Shopify Plus Expert, Fashion & Lifestyle DTC, UX/UI Design, CRO, Custom Development

Gamma Waves (formerly Sellry) has been building on Shopify Plus since 2013. Over a decade of platform focus shows in both their technical fluency and their client roster. They specialize in fashion, beauty, and lifestyle DTC brands, where how the store feels is as commercially important as how it converts.

Clients include DOEN, Monique Lhuillier, SuperGoop, Carbon38, and Another Tomorrow. That portfolio doesn’t get assembled by accident. Their approach combines strategy, UX and UI design, custom development, and CRO into a single coherent process.

Documented results include 2x repurchase rates and a 17.9% AOV increase among logged-in shoppers on projects built around identity-driven personalization. They also run an AI-assisted development pipeline that lets a boutique team compete at a level of technical sophistication that previously required a much larger agency.

Best For

Fashion, beauty, and lifestyle DTC brands on Shopify Plus that need a technically strong agency with genuine design sensibility and a track record of building premium, conversion-optimized experiences for demanding brands.

How to choose the right agency for your situation

Reading a list like this is useful. Knowing which agency actually fits your situation is the hard part. Here’s how to narrow it down.

Start with where you are, not where you want to be

The most common mistake I see in agency selection is shopping for the most impressive portfolio rather than the most relevant one. A $50M DTC fashion brand and a $2M founder-led business have completely different needs, budgets, and expectations. Match the agency to your current stage first.

Stage / SituationAgencies to look at
Launching / early DTCChicago Web Co, PIVOT
Growth stage / $1M–$10M DTCFuel Made, Exhibea, Verbal+Visual, Gamma Waves
Scaling / $10M–$50M DTCVerbal+Visual, Exhibea, PIVOT, Fuel Made
B2B / wholesale / manufacturingUncap, Fyresite, eHouse Studio
Premium / luxury / brand-firstSweden Unlimited, Gamma Waves, Exhibea
Enterprise / complex integrationseHouse Studio, Fyresite, Uncap

Know your actual bottleneck

Before you brief an agency, be honest about what’s actually broken. Most brands can’t clearly separate their problems, which leads to bad briefs and bad outcomes.

ProblemAgencies to look at
Design problem (store looks dated or off-brand)Exhibea, Sweden Unlimited, Verbal+Visual, Gamma Waves
Conversion problem (traffic is fine, revenue isn’t)Fuel Made, PIVOT, Chicago Web Co
Retention problem (customers buy once and disappear)eHouse Studio, Fuel Made
Migration problem (Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce)Fyresite, eHouse Studio, Uncap, PIVOT
B2B problem (wholesale, dealer portals, complex catalog)Uncap, Fyresite, eHouse Studio

Vet the actual team, not the case studies

Every agency has standout case studies they’ll put in front of you. What matters more is who will actually work on your account and how long they’ve been at the agency. I’d ask this directly in the first call:

Final thoughts

The best Shopify agency isn’t the one with the longest client list or the most Shopify Plus badges. It’s the one that has done exactly what you need to do, is currently doing it at your scale, and has team members who will still be there six months from now.

Build your shortlist around that, and the decision gets a lot cleaner.

One question I’d ask yourself before reaching out to anyone: do you actually know what your biggest conversion bottleneck is right now? Is it design, CRO, technical debt, or retention?

Because that answer determines more about which agency you should hire than anything else on this list.
